Amanda-Sue Rope is a London-based artist and designer. Working with clay, paint and print, her graphic compositions and forms are influenced by the architectural richness of her environment. She has received illustration commissions from Faber, Pushkin Press, World of Interiors and Stella Magazine and is represented by the illustration agency, Glory!
Amanda-Sue’s ceramic practice is based in Grove Vale Ceramics - a studio and gallery space she set up with Lise Herud Braten in 2020. Amanda-Sue also teaches ceramic classes at The Kiln Rooms.
Amanda-Sues ceramic work is the result of wheel thrown forms deconstructed and reformed into strong sculptural forms. Working from drawings and photographs, observing her surroundings, her forms explore the built environment and its interaction with nature. Her surface textures expose the raw beauty of the clay body she works with as well hand painted designs using slips, underglazes and sparing use of glaze in interiors.
Viewed in a sculptural context, Amanda-Sues ceramics form complimentary compositions exploring form and juxtapositions, each element existing with a strong structural presence on it's own.
