Our Japanese Birch ceramics range is from Marumitsu Pottery, a small Japanese company over 70 years old and based in the Seto Region. Seto is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns. Six ancient kilns has over 1000 years history of production of ceramics. Seto was abundant in rare, high-quality clay with durability and light colour close to porcelain. In the middle ages, Seto became the first and only place to glaze the ceramics. This long history and tradition has been carried on to the present day.
For Marumitsu pottery a ceramic prototype mould is made by hand, then casts are taken for range consistency. They are then glazed by hand with an eye for detail and to celebrate the irregularities and textures of the glaze, and the warmth of imperfection created by human hands. Creating a unique tableware with personality and character.
