Know Your Maker
Murasaki Kuromai Straw pots and pans are woven by hand in Tohoku by skilled Japanese craftsman, from Murasaki Kuromai, a rare type of ancient rice.
The chemical free, cultivated, purple-black rice is selected from among many varieties for the Murasaki Kuromai pot holder. The colour of the rice is easily affected by the climate at certain times of the year and the unique colour that is only produced when the rice is dried quickly and not exposed to the sun. It is not a true pitch black, but a deep purple.
