Made in Tochigi Prefecture from traditional Japanese Hinoki cypress.
Hinoki wood is used in traditional Japanese woodworking and crafts. It is native to Japan, resistant to mould and bacterial. The soap dish is made from Hinoki, a type of slow-growing cypress native to the central Japanese islands.
This is traditionally the timber preferred for the construction of temples, shrines, and especially wooden bathtubs. Prized for its high oil content, Hinoki has been used for centuries in Japanese baths because of its water repellent and deodorising qualities.
Hinoki grows straight and knot-free, and the lightly lemon-scented timber is resistant to insect attack.
